Mark Reyes, MSA
Mark Reyes, MSA is a Filipino-Canadian artist based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, whose work explores memory, identity, and the quiet beauty of everyday life. Working primarily in oil, his art bridges cultures and traditions, rooted in his Kapampangan heritage and deeply influenced by the vast landscapes and the wildlife of the Canadian Prairies.
Mark’s practice spans portraiture, landscape, wildlife, and urban scenes, unified by a refined blend of realism and impressionism. His brushwork is deliberate yet expressive, often layered with gold leaf and other mixed media to create depth, texture, and luminosity. Through this interplay of light and surface, he seeks to capture the transcendent moments that connect the human experience to the natural and spiritual world.
Portraiture holds a special place in his oeuvre. For Mark, every face tells a multitude of stories, histories, dreams, and the quiet truths of lived experience. Through nuanced observation and painterly sensitivity, he strives to reveal what lies beyond likeness, to show the enduring soul of his subjects.
An active member of the Manitoba Society of Artists and an associate member of the Society of Canadian Artists, Mark has participated in numerous exhibitions, including:
• Winnipeg Fine Art Fair (2025)
• Arcane Horizon Gala Art Auction (2024)
• Kaleidoscope Group Art Show (2024–2025)
• Manitoba Society of Artists Open Juried Exhibition & Competition (2024, 2025)
His painting An Afternoon Nap was juried into the 2024 MSA Open Juried Exhibition, while in 2025 his works Tinderang Asan, Karaban, and Corpus were all selected for exhibition, with Corpus earning Second Place. Karaban has since been acquired for the Government of Manitoba’s permanent art collection. In June 2025, Mark presented a collection of works at the Manitoba Legislative Building in celebration of Filipino Heritage Month.
Beyond the canvas, Mark is committed to community and service. A proud member of the Transcona Rotary Club and founder of The Reyes Family Foundation, he channels proceeds from his art into charitable initiatives through the Reyes Family Foundation, supporting education, nourishment, and infrastructure programs in the Philippines. Through both art and philanthropy, he continues to pursue what he considers the ultimate purpose of creativity: to add beauty and meaning to life.
